Artist's Comments

this homeless dog is one of many in russia.

it seems to be a problem haunting not only small cities, like voronezh (where i'm from), but also a central, clean (especially around the time this photograph was taken - city was cleaned out for celerbations) city like moscow.

homeless dogs exist in packs and i wouldn't call them domesticated by any means.

this one followed me and ^hesitation from about the middle of the red square (nice place for a homeless dog, eh?) until the very end, waited for us as we stopped to take photographs, followed us across a long bridge over the river and across street lights. it stayed within half a meter of us and displayed incredible amounts of affection, love, hunger and cuteness throughout this whole time.

to such a degree that hesi and i stopped in a convinience store and bought all of us some russian delicatessen meats - 4 sticks of smoked meats. 2 went to the dog, one went to hesi and one went to me. except i fed half of mine to the dog... couldn't help but be impressed at how well they beg.

another insight into russia from a western-ish perspective...

Could you have adjusted your macro to bring his nose into focus with the rest of his face?
Also, I like it!

Love the angle / perspective on this one.

In an ideal world, it would be nice if the focal range was from the nose to the eyes, but I can't imagine that wild dogs are especially easy to pose. ;-)

Wow! Sad that such a problem exists. :( Are there pounds or animal shelters? Or is the problem just to widespread?

Anyway, great capture. You've managed to take an unfortunate situation and put a cute, humorous spin on it. Even though that particular dog is probably dirty, wild and starving, this capture makes him look cute, tender and funny. :giggle:

Great capture!

Great shot and a very sad story. I would have had to take the dog home with me. :-( You get an award for being a good guy.
